In September we trialed our new stats contest, awarding 5 players with honorz and their choice of prize from my backpack.

Last month we kept the stats on #15 plr_hightower. This month we are combining #13 koth_harvest with #15′s plr_hightower stats for the contest (trial basis).

We’re also upping the prize to a KEY (or equal value) for each winner. (You can only win one category)

In our conquest to help Newbs members put away those Ghastly Gibuses, we’ve been taking from the rich and giving to the Irish all month. If you missed it, don’t worry we’re just getting started.

Our 1st Annual “Its a holiday about pumpkins” story contest was a success with prizes going to the top 3 spots. Koans dug into his bottomless pockets to make sure you got yourself a pre-order of Super Meat Boy or a copy of Poker Night at the Inventory for you and that special someone.

• First place is Red Badger for $25 Steam bucks.
• Second place is Major Dewar for $15 Steam bucks.
• Third place is King for $10 Steam bucks.

We also wrapped up our 3rd Annual Team Fortress Newbs TF2 Themed Pumpkin Carving Contest. With the top 2 entries receiving more of Koans money in steam games!

• First Place: NFreak $25 steam bucks
• Second Place: Sharpevil $15 steam bucks

We’ve had less participation this year than in previous years on these competitions, but that doesn’t mean the prizes stop flowing. A great example of this is our Newbs Team Fortess 2 Christmas and other Winter Celebrations Contest in which contestants had to submit something holiday related. Although the competition was stiff, I still managed to win $20 steam bucks for my entry. How in the world did I win money with an entry like this? Well Octo felt since it took him a few months longer than it should have to judge it, that every contestant was a winner! He also gave out a reserved slot on ALL SERVERS for every entry.

Not only did I win $20 for this, but your mother has a laminated copy of this hanging on her refrigerator. Happy Hanukkah Mrs. Feuchtwanger!

Which brings us to our most recent contest: The Newbs Stimulus Plan. If you haven’t heard about this one.. Shame on you. Haha, no really.. shame on you. It’s our latest and greatest, and it’s designed to bring the hat poor’s backpacks on par with the likes of Octo and Crap (full vintage sets – oh yeah). All entries in the previous contests I have mentioned received 25 bonus points towards the Newbs Stimulus raffle. We compiled 3647 entries this month and plan to top that in December. Octo wrote the code for the lottery, so plan on this being a monthly tradition. Without further ado, this months winners:

Stax1 came in with 84 entries, and The Shark came in with 26. The Sharks entries were composed mainly of his bonus entries from another contest. What does this mean? It Pays to Participate. Literally, we here at Newbs rack our brains trying to conjure up new and exciting ways to give back to our great community, so take advantage.

Newbsmas has Began!

Its that time of year again – Newbsmas.  As you all should know by now, Newbsmas is an elusive holiday, it begins and ends on different days each year.  This year it will be ending January 15th (2011).  The celebration is the same as last year.  Create a TF2 Themed wintery craft, story, item, short design, comic, whatever give it to the contest, and sit back and wait for prizes of great joy.    More details to come.  Prizes are great as always and will be announced shortly.

A more formal blog post detailing Newbsmas is on the way. Keep an eye on the updates in this thread.

The Jib&Koans Contest of Awesome feature the newly aquired Newb Points is complete.

The first place winner will recieve a TF2Newbs tshirt and a pick of one of Koans games second and third place also recieve a tshirt, as well as the top ranking admin.

This contest was a lot of fun, and it really changed the way the game was played. The purpose of this contest of course is to promote server #8 (which i’m sure you all see how badass it really is now..) and to promote team play which we’re all about.. and Gggly playing engy for an entire match unprompted shows me this contest was indeed a Huge Success!! Verry niice

Congrats to Ggglygy, Eekozoid, yaaawn, and Link for being badasses

So there you have it. Good thing the Ggglygy Contest Clause was in affect for this. Sec.4-Par.2 Clearly states that the grand winner of a previous contest cannot be the grand winner of a future contest.. Basically Gggly seems to find a way to win everytime. He doesn’t get the Grand Prize.. BUT, He still gets a tshirt, and he seems pretty pumped about that. Congrats to Eekozoid for winning the Grand Prize, he puts in a lot of work for #8 and his dedication showed during this contest. Glad to see the newcomer yaaawn finishing up in the ranks, he’s a well respected player on the server. And last but not least big ups to Link for taking the admin challenge, and coming out on top.

That’s right, TF2 Newbs is comin’ at you live with another contest in which you get the opportunity to gain fame, fortune, and the first run of some TF2 Newbs Gear.

What it is:

A contest of wits, skill, and teamwork to be taking place on Server #8 [New York]

When:
Starting February 2nd HLX Stats WITH A TWIST will start to be tabulated. The Contest will run until Saturday February 28th in which the winners will be announced.

How Does it Work?:
Rather than going strictly off of the standard ‘points earned’ from our stats, we decided to make our own NEWB Equation of what we find to be important in a solid overall player. There will be 5 or 6 stats plugged into an equation which equates to NEWB POINTS.

Newb Points? What the…:
Easssy eassy.. I know what you’re thinking. “But Jib, I’m a solid overall team player, who makes an honorable difference on my team.. But I’ll have no chance winning this versus the stat whores”

WRONG… and here’s why. Our specially formulated NEWB Equation is designed to find the best overall players, not the whores. We can’t give away the details but I can tell you uberwanking won’t save you, overall points will be considered, and time on the server is a factor. Beyond that we’ll leave it a mystery to promote solid play.

PrizES?!:
Oh yea. you know it. Top 3 places will be awarded our first run of OFFICIAL TF2 NEWBS TSHIRTS. These are a special one time design that cannot be purchased, or replicated. (Compliments of Jib)

In addition to the gear, First place will be awarded their choice of an EA game! Koans will be posting a list of donated titles to choose from.

What now?!
The only requirement for this contest is that you’re a member of our forums! Once that’s in check get your self on the server and get to work! Keep in mind the objectives of TF2, don’t be a whore and most of all have FUN.

Admins are not allowed to win, and previous contest winners cannot take first place. Void where prohibited.

I had the day off today, and I decided to devote my whole day to doing absolutely nothing constructive in the real world. It’s one of those day dreams I have when i’m working four 12 hour shifts in a row.. Long story short, we had a few scrims today and i’m here to tell you about it.

It started out like any other scrim.. zei|o messages me, I ask if we have 6 – we do – log on vent – dondi found some randos who want to get down and dirty. sweet. So we load up gravel pit on #8 and the fun ensues. Memorable quotes from the match:

gggly: hold on let me check (goes to spec)

They barely capped A. Literally, they had like 3 seconds left before they capped it. One of their guys raegs because we have two snipers raining down bullets into their faces. they blame his pc.. he rejoins we restart. We run two spies. They capture A, but struggle to even touch B. We win within 40 seconds on offense. This madness continue for 3 rounds until they’ve had enough and the newbs leave. I hang out afterwards and play their team 6v1 as scout and they STILL didn’t win haha.. they weren’t playing too hard but still : )

half hour break.. we regroup versus some reputable individuals on badlands.

First map we get to the last point, but fail to cap all the way. They counter us all the way back and eventually win. Second round, we came out and pushed right down their throats,(thats what she said) ubered on the last point, killed their medic and won. It was pretty obvious the team who took the middle point first was most likely going to win. After that round they were pretty tentative at taking the middle point, and we really starting getting into a groove. We lost that one, then won. You could tell it was getting to them, because when we hit 2-2, they subbed in former Cevo-p V-police’s BLACKYMOSTER at sniper. I’ve played him a couple times and he puts people to shame with that red dot. He was such a force their medic was pretty much dedicated to him for the big battles at the third point. BLACKYMONSTER’s presence was felt, but not enough for them to pull out another win.

They started switching their build with a pyro and BLACKY going to scout, but to no evail.

Bottom Line: Newbs win.
